Raise Your Hand is a coaliation of Chicago Public Schools. We will be holsing a session to say oppose job cuts in all CPS schools on Tuesday, June 8th 2010, from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. A representative from the CPS CEO’s office will be there to take questions and lobbyist will also provide us with latest legislative updates.

Reading is Art-RAGEOUS!

Dear Chicago Public Schools Parents, Guardians, and Students:

This summer join the reading team! Your K-8 summer reading list was created as a starting point by the Chicago Public Schools in partnership with the Chicago Public Library. All of these can be found at your nearest Chicago Public Library!

The 2010 annual Summer Reading Program, Reading is Art-RAGEOUS! begins June 14. Reading is Art-RAGEOUS! is an exciting, eight-week program held in partnership with the Art Institute of Chicago. Choose books to read from this list, read often and participate in Reading is Art-RAGEOUS! at the library!

Students let their voices be heard about CPS job cuts!

Since the news about teacher job cuts hit Ariel students have been at unrest and sought ways in which they could express their concerns. Students have written letters to state senators and other government officials. One example of such letter was written by Aryeh and published by the Chicago Tribune.

Parents, teachers and students have also organized a rally against these job cuts at Ariel on Friday, May 28th from 6:00 PM onwards. We encourage everyone to join hands with us and help support our futures!

Special Olympics Winners!

Congratulations to all students of Ms. Nikolaou’s primary autism class!!!

Thousands of students from schools all over the city and suburbs took part in the Special Olympics. Three of Ms. Nikolaou’s students won Gold medals in the Special Olympics and are now eligible to compete downstate for the national team.

The winners are:

Aliayh - 50 yd. dash. GOLD

Calvin - 50 yd dash GOLD

Mark - 100 yd. dash. GOLD

We are all very proud of all our students!

Nature Museum Family Field Trip!

On Saturday January 30th one hundred Ariel students and family members went on a family field trip to the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. At the museum Ariel families enjoyed programming provided by the museum on such topics as recycling and the mysteries of worms. Family members completed recycling relay races and even observed live worms! Ariel families also had time to explore the nature museum on their own. The butterfly exhibit, green house, and critter camera exhibits were a few of the favorites! The family field trip was a special day where Ariel families could explore and learn together.

Math - Science - Investment Night!!

Dear Students and Parents,

We would like to invite you to our Math/Science/Investment Night. We strongly believe that parents are our best resource. The focus of this night will be using NWEA data to help you work with your child at home. Teachers from all grades will plan activities and sessions based on this focus.

The event will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

Spelling Bee

Ariel Community Academy held their annual school wide spelling bee in which students from all grades took part. After highly contested 8 rounds of spelling bee the results were as follows:

1st: Bryan - 8th Grade

2nd: Jose - 6th Grade

Haiti Disaster Relief Fundraiser

Students of Ariel Community Academy came up with the idea of supporting the nation of Haiti by celebrating their culture and traditions by having a Haiti Spirit Week. The collections from students will be donated to a charitable organization to help benefit the people of Haiti.

Dr. Coleman, Dr. Judy, and Ms. Suffredin pictures with students on "French Day" of the Spirit Week.

2009 Middle School Science Fair

Ariel Community Academy held their annual middle school science fair on Friday, November 20. Students demonstrated their understandings of the experimental design via their very own creative experiments. A total of 128 middle school students presented their projects to community members, parents, and judges from top companies as well as various universities. The winners for the science fair are as follows:
