Welcome to the Walter H. Dyett High School Website!

"Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.  We have a moral responsibility to be intelligent."          Martin L. King Jr.

OUR MOTTO:  Dyett High School, Doing Good in the Neighborhood!

VISION: The Walter H. Dyett High School Community will provide an academically and socially enriched environment for all students (including those with disabilities) to successfully emerge with a strong sense of P.R.I.D.E. (Personal Responsibility In Developing Excellence).

MISSION: The Walter H. Dyett High School family guides and empowers all students (including those with disabilities) with the academic, emotional and social foundations necessary to become lifelong learners and positive contributors to their local and global communities.

Walter H. Dyett High School (DHS), formerly Dyett Academic Center, opened in 1972 as an elementary school, and recently became a CPS high school located in the economically and culturally diverse neighborhood of Washington Park on the South Side.  In 1999, Dyett transitioned out of its longstanding role in the community as a middle/elementary school into a high school in order to better service the area. The year 2007 marked the school’s first year of serving only high school students, grades 9-12. As the school transitions, the administration and staff seek to ground DHS in educational and social excellence. Students are often drawn by DHS's relatively small size and commitment to discipline.
