Welcome to 6th Grade!

First of all, let me introduce myself.  My name is Lauren Telander and I will be your 6th grader’s homeroom teacher, writing teacher and reading teacher for the school year.  I have my Master of Education and I have been active in the education profession for 4 years.

During the 2008-2009 school year, I was working for AVID and had the opportunity to work with the teachers and students at Shoesmith in order to get the school AVID certified!  Out of the hundreds of elementary schools I worked with last year, Shoesmith was by far my favorite.  Needless to say, I am honored and excited to be a part of this fantastic school!

I realize that teaching your child is a privilege, as well as a tremendous responsibility. I will do my best this year to ensure that each student has a motivating and safe learning experience in the classroom.  However, I cannot do this alone: I need your help. We both need to be partners in the learning process.  I need each of you to encourage your child at home by helping to ensure that they have completed their assignments, and help them study for quizzes, tests, etc.

Finally, below I have included some information that will help you get the year started off right. I know with your help we are going to have great year!

*Student Fees:  If you turn in the student fee to the main office before September 11th, you can turn in a reduced fee of $40!!  After September 11th, the fee goes back to $50.

*Uniforms:  Please remember that students are required to be in uniform when they come to school.

*Absent Notes:  Whenever your child is absent, please give your student a note explaining the absence as soon as they return to school.

*Subjects & Grading Policies:  Please find the grading breakdown on the back for science, reading, writing, social studies and math for all intermediate students.
