Dear Parents and Guardians:
Welcome to 2nd Grade and Room 108! My name is Ms. Willis and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I am excited to begin my seventh year teaching students. I truly believe that education is the key to our future success.
I would like to share a little about myself with you. I graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Social Policy. Some years later, I returned to school to obtain a Master of Arts in Teaching from National-Louis University. This is my fourth year teaching at Shoesmith. I was born and raised in Chicago, one of the greatest cities in the world. When I am not teaching, I can usually be found in a bookstore like Borders or Barnes & Noble. I love books! I like ice skating, doing Sudoku puzzles, and watching action movies. I also enjoy spending time with my family and my puppy, Mimi.
Here are a few reminders to make sure that the school year gets off to a fantastic start:
1. On Mondays, each student will be given a homework folder that contains a homework packet for the entire week. Homework is to be completed and returned the following Monday. Weekly Spelling Tests will also be given the same day that the homework packet is due.
2. Shoesmith is a uniform school. Each student must wear his/her uniform Monday-Thursday. On Friday, casual dress is permitted.
3. Should your child be absent from school, please send a note detailing the reason for the absence. This note should accompany your child upon his/her return to school.
4. All students are required to pay a $50 student fee which covers the cost of consumable workbooks.
5. All students must bring school supplies that will go towards our classroom supply of materials. (See attached Supply List.)
6. Finally, I am usually available before and after school to speak with you. I am also available by appointment. Please feel free to email me at any time. I will reply within 24 hours.
I thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation. I am excited about the new school year. I also look forward to meeting each of you soon.
Sincerely,
Ms. Willis
