Mrs. Wood’s Class - Room 103

Educational Leaders of Room 103

Hello, my name is Megan Wood and I am the third grade teacher in Room 103. I have been teaching for 8 years, two of which have been here at Shoesmith. I have taught overseas in Germany and in Australia as well at in my home state of California. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, a Post-Grad Multiple Subject teaching certificate, and am currently in school to receive a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a Reading Specialist certification. I moved to Chicago two years ago so my husband could complete a PhD in Political Science at the University of Chicago. In addition to work and school, my husband and I also work as Resident Heads to support the undergraduates as they transition to college life at the University of Chicago.

My name is Kelly Lane and I am the third grade student teacher in Room 103. I recently graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with concentrations in Social Studies and Geography and a specialization in Gender and Urban Spaces. This past May I returned from a semester long study abroad program in Thailand where I interned at a charity organization in Bangkok. It was an amazing opportunity to grow and learn as an educator and as a person. Before I moved to Chicago I spent much of my time working for the City of Lansing Parks and Recreation Department and volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters. I look forward to the upcoming school year and all of the wonderful learning opportunities it will bring.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to 3rd grade! As you know, third grade is a benchmark grade. It is very important that you, the parent/guardian, keep up with the work your child is doing. If we work together, then we can ensure success.

To start the year, here are some important reminders about Room 103.

1. Each child will be given a homework journal. Each day you will see my initials indicating your child has all the required assignments written down as well as needed sheets or books to complete the work.

2. Each child will be given a red folder. Every Monday this folder will be sent home. Inside the folder, you will find the previous week’s tests, homework grades, and any important letters from me. You are to keep the papers, sign the parent sheet, and return the folder by Friday.

3. All students must be in uniform. However, on Fridays, students are permitted to wear regular clothes.

4. All students are expected to wear a gym uniform. The uniform may be purchased in the office.

5. If your child is absent from school, it is imperative that you send a note to school explaining the absence.

6. School starts at 8:55 and students are dismissed at 2:45. Tardiness should not be an everyday occurrence.

7. All students are required to pay a student fee which covers the usage of consumable workbooks.

Thank you,

Mrs. Wood
